Far Rockaway, NY — The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center (JPAFHC) is proud to announce that its Board Chair, Betty A. Leon, RN, MA, Esq., has been selected as a recipient of The Carole Morris Award by the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS). The award was presented during the CHCANYS25 Annual Conference Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The Carole Morris Award recognizes outstanding Board Chairs or members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and service to their community health center and the patients it serves. Ms. Leon, who has dedicated over three decades to advancing health equity, exemplifies the very spirit of this award through her lifelong commitment to advocacy, service, and community empowerment.

An attorney and registered nurse, Ms. Leon has served as Board Chair of The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center for more than 30 years, helping guide the organization’s growth and strategic direction. Her leadership has been instrumental in expanding access to comprehensive, high-quality health care across Queens, Brooklyn, and surrounding communities.
In addition to her role at Addabbo, Ms. Leon is deeply involved in civic life. She serves as Democratic State Committee Person for the 31st Assembly District, Judicial Delegate for the Queens County Democratic Club, and Secretary of Community Board 14 Queens’ Executive Board. She also serves as President of the Brooklyn Independent Democratic Club and Chair of Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School. She is an active member of both the NYU and CUNY Alumni Associations.
