The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center (JPA) is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Betsy Varghese, MD as the Director of Health Education and Volunteer Services. Dr. Varghese currently serves as a Family Medicine physician at our Site 3 in Jamaica, New York.

A daughter of immigrant parents from India, Dr. Varghese grew up in Queens, New York. She completed her Family Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center followed by a Fellowship in Geriatrics. She came to work for JPA in 2012 and thereafter, in 2014, served as part of the medical team that organized the opening of its Site 7 in Ozone Park. While building the foundations of that JPA health center site, Dr. Varghese also served as a Family Medicine physician there until its closure in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Passionate about patient advocacy and patient health education, Dr. Varghese will be initiating healthy-life educational resources and programs for our patients and the communities served by the JPA health center. She will also be heading up the Volunteer Department at JPA.

During her years as a physician, Dr. Varghese has adopted the wisdom contained in her favorite quote by Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
