Viviana Bonilla has been a Clinical Nutritionist for the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center for the past 10 years. She graduated Cum Laude from Lehman College (CUNY) with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition.
“I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field and after my first nutrition class, I knew I had found my focus. Working with foods and recipes plus helping others to eat healthier was very appealing to me,” explains Ms. Bonilla. Ms. Bonilla completed an internship at Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway during which time she realized that she wanted to go into Clinical Nutrition and work one-on-one with patients.
As a resident of the Rockaways, she used to accompany her grandmother who came to the Addabbo Health Center (JPA) for healthcare. During one of their visits, her grandmother’s provider asked her what she was studying in college. After learning that she was studying food and clinical nutrition, the JPA provider suggested she apply for a job at JPA. Upon her graduation, she sent in her resume, she was hired and has been working here ever since. She began in the Childhood Obesity Initiative and now serves both the pediatric and adult communities.
Ms. Bonilla enjoys many things, but cooking, baking, reading and spending time with her family and friends are her favorites. She thrives on being a team player. She is also a frequent contributor to the Addabbo Newsletter and website.
“My goals and objectives are to obtain my NYS license, achieve Certification to become a Certified Diabetes Educator and continue helping even more of the population served by the Addabbo Family Health Center,” says Ms. Bonilla. Ms. Bonilla speaks both English and Spanish.
