JPA ACQUIRES COVID-19 RAPID TESTING EQUIPMENT

Importance of Sports Physicals for ChildrenJPA is proud to announce that it has acquired the very latest in COVID-19 Testing Equipment. The Abbott ID Now PCR Rapid Testing machines are officially up and running at all 5 JPA sites. These machines can provide accurate COVID-19 test results in 13 minutes or less and are widely accepted for most travel and HR purposes.

In the fight against COVID-19, having multiple tests for different settings and stages of a person’s infection is key, from high-volume laboratory capabilities to fast solutions that give results on the spot, from tests that detect the active virus to tests that detect antibodies in people who were previously infected. The portable, rapid molecular ID NOW COVID-19 test has emerged as a critical part of this arsenal, allowing fast diagnosis — with results in 13 minutes or less.

In the case of COVID-19, point-of-care tests have become critical because of their portability, speed and reliability. Early detection can accelerate care, reduce viral spread and help people get on the road to recovery sooner.

Because of its portability and speed, ID NOW has been critical in helping to test first responders, including healthcare workers, police and fire departments. In Detroit, officers, firefighters, paramedics and bus drivers have been given the ID NOW COVID-19 tests before starting their shifts. According to the Associated Press, before the test was available, first responders would have been sent home for days until results from slower laboratory tests showed whether they had the virus.

These tests are available to JPA patients as part of their doctor visits and will add a new, critically important level to the work JPA does to combat COVID-19.
