Miriam Y. Vega, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, presented before the US House of Representatives Democratic Caucus as the guest of House Whip, Honorable James E. Clyburn on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
While expressing appreciation for the currentgovernment emergency funding to health centers, Dr. Vega made an impassioned plea for further emergency funding to be used to continue further COVID-19 testing initiatives to empower community members.She also presented information and data showing how essential Community Health Centers are to the communities they serve and how, moving forward, they can assist our Nation as it begins to reopen.Sharing some of the experiences Addabbo has had with its patients especially during the Walk-In testing, she stressed that testing is the key as the nation moves into this new phase.
Dr. Vega received a warm reception from the Congressional members who were well informed and passionate about the role Community Health Centers play throughout the Nation.
Several of Addabbo’s sites fall within Congressman Gregory Meeks’ Congressional District. Congressman Meeks has been wholly supportive in highlighting the value of Community Health Centers.
