The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center is proud to introduce Janine Beckles, MD. who will be joining the provider staff as of August 24, 2020. Dr. Beckles comes to Addabbo from the BMS Health Center in Brooklyn, NY where she has been practicing family medicine. Prior to her time with the BMS Health Center, she was a part of the Modern MD Urgent Care group.
Dr. Beckles graduated from the City College of New York, Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, Bachelor of Science, Biomedical Education cum laude. This seven-year BS/MD program brings together talented and motivated high school graduates who have an outstanding academic performance and community service and prepares them to serve the urban community as primary care physicians. She performed her residency in the Jamaica Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program where she served as its Chief Resident and Delegate of the Committee of Interns and Residents at Jamaica Hospital.
Her special interest in international health and women’s health took her to Guyana as part of a medical and surgical team that provided free care and medications to people across different communities. She also volunteered at the STAR Health Center, SUNY Downstate Medical Center working directly with women in the Women Interagency HIV Study (WIHS).
As a family physician, Dr. Beckles is committed to providing the best comprehensive and patient-centered care to all patients. Her approach to patient care is one that is mindful of patient preferences, cultures and beliefs. Since immigrating as a teenager, she has embraced being a member of a minority group in the US. “I believe that has helped me develop a deep respect for all patients regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status or religion,” says Dr. Beckles. “My personal experiences have also given me the confidence to be a strong patient advocate and to be considerate and understanding of patients’ lives outside of their illnesses.“
Dr. Beckles is very excited to join the team at Addabbo. “I am passionate about providing care in underserved communities and I believe that Addabbo will give me the opportunity to work and learn in a collegial environment that cherishes the psychological and social support patients need while providing quality, comprehensive medical care.”
