Dr. Peter Nelson has led the staff of the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center in Queens, New York through a remarkable series of innovations. Under his leadership during the past nine years, the Addabbo Family Health Center has affiliated with Peninsula Hospital Center, opened a new 13,000 square foot site in Far Rockaway, opened a Children’s Day Treatment Program, opened a 3,000 square foot medical center in Jamaica, Queens, NY and expanded mental health and dental services.
In May 2006, the Addabbo Family Health Center moved its headquarters to a new 22,000 square foot, state-of-the-art health care facility in the Arverne area of Queens and announced that the center was now equipped to serve 300 patients a day. Dr. Nelson’s dedication and vision have shaped his multifaceted programs in preventative and curative health services for cross-cultural populations. He enjoys an unparalleled reputation for the coordination of diverse services while developing productive interactions with the public and other institutions.
Dr. Nelson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina, a Master’s Degree from Columbia University, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from New York University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He has devoted his adult career to community health and to serving society’s underserved. For over thirty-five years, he has lived in and served urban communities from The Hill section of New Haven, Connecticut to Bedford Stuyvesant and Red Hook in Brooklyn, to West New York, New Jersey and now in Rockaway, Queens, New York.
Dr. Nelson is married to Lynne R. Newbold Nelson and has three children, Joshua, Abagail and Charity. Dr. and Mrs. Nelson’s grandchildren include Jonathan, Benjamin and Rachel.
